A few weeks ago I had a look at that HoT BoB competition on the Marathon's Story Page, and I had an idea. One probably had before, but what the hey. I'm starting a series of new HoT questions, an installment of three will be given every week on the Saturday. The correct answers will be rewarded, and if anyone finds an alternative answer, the same honor is bestowed. Remember, I am not confining this to the original trilogy, it will be from all over the Marathon universe. The first two this week, however, are Trilogy orientated, but the third is from elsewhere. So, here we go...

Question One:

What was 'powdered' to shower the grass with drops of its 'golden inlay'? (detail is appreciated here)

Question Two:

Which terminal in which level in which Trilogy segment was Traxus IV allegedly mentioned?

Question Three:

What 'only goes off if the primer slides over it'?
_____

Good Luck [MUp]
Remember, the answer deadline is Friday.

A "granite monument," supposedly by "Destiny" ? us, I suppose.
Dugit wrote:Question Two:

Level 3 ? "Defend THIS!" ? terminal 2:

"This was evident in the Crash of Traxus IV in 2206. By the
time that the Rampancy of Traxus was detected, he had already
infiltrated five of the other AIs on the Martian Net."
Dugit wrote:Question Three:

Can't say I can remember. Perhaps I'll come back on that later. I don't know why, but that quote seems to shout "Rubicon" in my mind.

To Marathoner325:

Your answer for question one is correct, but your answer for question two is only half complete. Yes, the mention of Traxus IV is there, but not allegedly . However, as an alternative but incomplete answer, this nets two instead of three points. Your total so far is a net of five points out of a possible nine.

Still waiting for the rest, and no, it is not Rubicon.

To WastdJamacan:

No.

The answers are still open for three, and there is still an incomplete answer for two. And, if anybody can spot the problem with question three, that's four points up for grabs.

Seeming as one question is fully answered already, I'm going to add a 'guess that map' question. All the attached files are screenshots of the first level of a particular netpack. Guess the netpack and the full name of the level itself, and the number of levels in the netpack, correctly of course, and there's six points. N.B.: The shots are taken in Normal, just for the sake of getting them done.

Remember, the deadline is Friday.

Dugit

Sorry, right idea, wrong level. So, I give you two points out of a possible three.

Total net so far:
Marathoner325: 5 points
Goran: 2 points

Re: Picture # 2.
Really? We're supposed to guess the netmap from a completely vague corridor whose only feature is a very hard to discern indented ledge?

O.K., I'm adding three more questions for next Tuesday. [MGross] The deadline for the first set still applies as a Friday, and the Guess the Map still applies as a Saturday.

Question Four:

Say, Durandal, now at Level 7, what am I 'out of'?

Question Five:

When one breathes nothing at all, when was what he reads written?

Question Six (five points for correct answer, for this one):

What raw core rectangle-producing instrument number is paired with an idiomatic natural language template?

Bonus (three points):

What scenario is the level "Behind the ErlenMyer Flask" part of?

Long live the HoT BoB!

The first deadline has been reached:

Question Two- the full answer was Tycho login/logoff For Carnage Apply Within Terminal One
Question Three- the answer was the foam used in an IFC .30 caliber LMG- and if you spotted that it "makes contact" rather than "slides over", all the points would be given.

Guess the Map- "Sex and Violence (6)" Netpack. The level was called "Courtyards". It was made for the Bungie Map Competition after the release of Infinity.

If you want that prize, I'd start answering those questions...

You know, I didn't have a problem with this when you just cross-posted a few times. It's a stupid idea, but I figured, let him go.

But now you're spamming our PMs.

I can't report PMs, so I'm reporting this thread instead.

Is this solely tied to the trilogy? Otherwise I'm going to guess "Toadstools" from Rubicon- if you play nothing but the Pfhor plank but still go to "Breathing Nothing at All", you are informed in dream-like terminals about the doings of the dangi corporation, despite not really knowing what it means. Then, on Toadstools, you are informed that the plans you read about in BNAA were successful, i.e. written in history or something.

Good effort, Shadowbreaker. For both efforts, there is a tally of three points. However, the answer I am looking for is slightly different (a stardate, perhaps?), but you are definitely on the right track.

Hint for Question 4: Look for Latin!

Total Points Tally:

Marathoner325: 5 points
Goran: 2 points
Shadowbreaker: 3 points

Really? I thought most Pfhorums goers had at least a small knowledge of the Marathon universe, and thought it might appeal to them. It looks as if my twisted view was wrong again. [MFrown]

Since the first Guess the Map has passed, I'm uploading the Sex and Violence pack here.

I didn't make it; it was made when I was about two years old.

Enjoy?

Hi guys [MLaugh] . I'm new here; I was just about to pop my head around the Welcome door but then I spotted this nifty little competition. So, I have the answer for question 4.

The answer is Ex Cathedra of Marathon 2- meaning out of the easy chair, or arm chair. I think that's it.
