I started using this handle several years ago largely because of that quote from Alex in the Marathon Scrapbook, but I'd never before used it at a forum where a large percentage of the user base would actually recognise it. So this'll be an experience.

I was a frequent contributor to the Story pages under my real name - Aaron Freed - about a decade ago, but then I pretty much drifted away from Marathon for a couple of years and, even when I got back into it, didn't bother reconnecting with the community. Much. I made a couple half-assed attempts that I quickly abandoned due to being side-tracked with RL issues. Now that online net play works at least half decently, though, I think it's time to put an end to that.

apart from Marathon I used to be heavily into JRPGs but I think that phase of my existence is over. I'm also heavily interested in music (prog and metal in particular, though I'll listen to anything as long as it isn't crap) and politics (an ideological opponent once accused me of being "left of Chomsky," which isn't quite right but isn't wildly off the mark either).

Anyway, 'sup. Hopefully we can have lots of entertaining net games together. Maybe if I unlazy myself I'll tell you a bit about the scenario I'm working on too, though it's nowhere near being ready for wide release yet.

“People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.” —V, V for Vendetta (Alan Moore)

“The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist: a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain. If you can’t lick ’em, join ’em. If it hurts, repeat it. But to praise despair is to condemn delight, to embrace violence is to lose hold of everything else. We have almost lost hold; we can no longer describe happy man, nor make any celebration of joy.” —Ursula K. Le Guin, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas”

“If others had not been foolish, we should be so.” —William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell

“The law cannot protect anyone unless it binds everyone; and it cannot bind anyone unless it protects everyone.” —Frank Wilhoit

yo
the welcome train is here
Its just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. Then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns and also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?

Moore is what got me into the medium in the first place. So yes, I'd agree, though I'm not sure it's actually objectively better than Watchmen and From Hell. Subjectively the anarchistic themes strongly influence it in my favour though.

And I'm long past the point where trolling bothers me at all; I've been fully exposed to *chan culture for at least four years now.

Also, thanks @ everyone.
