so what does that mean? does anyone here have more information about it.

I know that Bungie is planning something for this years E3 but what... - wait it couldn't be ........ . - or could it?

No, it's going to be another Halo. This one is squad based and the story is a little darker. Of course I'm a third-hand source so I might not be entirely accurate.

edit: oh yeah and they have a timer on that page which is counting down to 2:07:07 tomorrow afternoon GMT.

I don't think so.
Bungie has passed the rights for Halo to Microsoft.
Anything Halo-esque or Halo related is off-limits for Bungie.

They only own the Marathon Games - Take 2 owns Myth and Oni AFAIK.

If the looks & the messages of the tempdown page are somehow related to their upcoming announcement it might as well be MIV.
I mean if you read things like "Alert Status" "No Public Access" and "Emergency Light Active"

what other options are there?
They could come up with a completely new game as well.

Gods why do they have to make it so dramatic.

Due to the "Pardon our Dust" message it could be PiD2 like Winter Wolf Pointed out. It could also be a new franchise, which could be about anything really. They might have licensed Myth from Take 2 to make another of those games, or it could follow the current pattern of Bungie FPSs and be about a cyborg and an AI named Joyeuse. It could also be that they are making a sequel to one of their older games (for instance Owt Gnop! as MasterYo1 said or they may team up with Wide Load Games to make a game about the new Iraq War). Of course we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure.
Maybe a new, squad-based Halo is coming. My source's (Cnet) source works at either Microsoft or Bungie or is very close to at least one of those two companies.

To say the least, I'm extremely disappointed and surprised. They decide 24 hours before a major announcement to cancel said announcement? After bothering to hype it too? Blizzard remains the best company at announcing games, I'm extremely disappointed with Bungie.

I decided to check Bungie's forums and its absolutely hilarious. All of them are freaking out and about half of them seem convinced the cancellation letter is a hoax to help marketing (not sure how that works exactly...). They're creating topics so fast that a topic gets barely a few posts in it before its off the page.

I cannot find the link for you (as it got lost in the Bungie forums freaking out) but a Bungie employee confirmed the publisher was Microsoft. Apparently Bungie has some continued contracts and such with them, meaning they're not nearly as independent as we all assumed.

Microsoft gets on my nerves fairly often nowadays...

Damn Bungie... But the did say they would continue to make games for the Xbox 360/Future Microsoft consoles. Microsoft wants another halo probably because they are afraid of Nintendo at the moment, and just like Nintendo would do in their position, they are going to hype another release in their biggest franchise.
