Got the ball

I have noticed in Aleph One ball and ctf games, it does not play a funny sound when you pick up the ball or get it or something... is there a reason?

Marathon Infinity didn't play a sound when you got the ball, just when it dropped for the first time. Marathon 2 didn't play either the ball sound, or the electric guitar when you become it (in Tag), and I guess those never got added to Aleph One.
