I have seen many odd avatars on this board and it got me thinking... (gasp, thinking?)

What motivates us to chose the avatars we chose?

HAL9000 seems to be an excellent choice of avatar for a Marathon-related board. A rampant AI that attempts to kill off the humans... Sound familiar? (are you pfhor real?)

Ironically, I wasn't thinking of that while I was chosing my Avatar. I just wanted to use the same avatar as all my other forum profiles scattered across the 'net.

What/Who is your avatar, and why did you chose it?

I just wanted to find an aesthetically pleasing, Marathon related image for my avatar, hence the weird Pfhor thing. I'll probably change it to something from the Syndicate art I'm doing though once we get past the black-ops stage...

When Lhowon made a picture of his interpretation of planet Lhowon, I couldn't help imagining it with feet and a necktie. So I added those and now I believe some people have come to think that this is what I actually look like so I suppose I'm just gonna leave it there.

The character is Brent from the webcomic Player VS PLayer, where he's a Mac fan and designer of a fictional video games magazine.

The background is an OS X desktop with a Marathon logo.

I think it's obvious, isn't it?

My avatar is a painting by Alex Grey. I really like his art and his personality. Gotta love a guy who takes home a roadkill and watch it rot day by day. You know, just to find out how the process works. He's crazy and skilled. Sign of true genius!

The text under it, astrum crusis, is a tribute to starcraft. A game I really like. We play it quite regulary at hl.bungie.org.

Something I whipped up in Illustrator on a whim. It's gone through several iterations, and I'm looking to change it to something more Rubicon-y when I find a moment to change it.

I used HAL 900 because i thought he was possibly the coolest AI ever and I had just watched 2001. Too bad i didn't think of that reason for HAL.
Its just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. Then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns and also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?

Everyone loves kittens. You can do all sorts of things with kittens...They're like tiny, furry cows (or small rotisserie chickens, depending on your mindset).

Well, one day I got a gif program, and tried to think of something cool to make a gif out of. So I took a poor quality Ganondorf video I got from a speed run and converted it. It looked horrible, and was that part where Ganon transforms into Ganondorf.

Well, I gave on that since it was too sucky. So I downloaded an emulator, some High Definition Texture packs, and fraps, then recorded the screen at the part I wanted where he "powers up".

Then I used it on that other forum for a while, then I decided to use it here.

Yup, pretty much it. Felt it was better than the Hitler robot avatar I used to use on the ol' Mac OS Aim. But then the Hitler robot is still kind of cool...

Heil Gort!

If you can find HAL9000 pr0n, more power to ya'. I really don't think there is any (though, the internet is a twisted place).

My most recent avatar is a "concept sketch" for a gun I wanted CryoS to make... I didn't really feel like drawing anything, so I got creative:

Is that the philosophy where you rat out your drug-using friends to narcotics officers?

Near the time I joined The Pfhorums I received a DVD of Robot Chicken. The robot chicken from the opening credits of the show is my Personal Photo and former avatar because I thought it had a funny resemblance the Durandural Bobs.

My current avatar is a picture I took of a sparkler during a Forth of July celebration. I like it.
