So, about the BoBs...
Where are all the women? We only ever see male BoBs in the Marathon games. Are the BoBs all gay? Are they coming out of the booth to frog blast each others' vent cores? Are they just asexual? Genetically engineered in any way? Grown artificially in lab settings and not a human uterus? Is this even w...

Re: Bug when standing on fast lowering platforms
It has been an entire year and no one has responded. That's disappointing. I'd like to bring up another problem with this alteration of the game mechanics. There are some parts of the level design in 2 and Infinity that have very fast platforms moving up and down constantly. With the original mechan...

Re: Remastered Marathon Infinity sounds
Thanks for the prompt and detailed response! I'll be sure to look into RX Standard, that's actually quite affordable.

Re: Remastered Marathon Infinity sounds
I wanted to comment on this when I first saw it but never got around to it. So I'll say now, this is some fantastic stuff! The Man, I'm interested in applying this same process to Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 beta sounds, can you please shed some light on the exact details of your methods? Like, what...

Re: xBR Textures
There's one major problem with trying to upscale the original assets: dithering. Either you're going to have to use a de-dithering program (which the results honestly don't look good from what I've seen) or carefully blend by hand. You're probably just better off editing the XBLA textures to look cl...

Bug when standing on fast lowering platforms
My specs aren't relevant as this is a gameplay logic issue, not rendering or anything of the sort. So, a while back Aleph One fixed the irritating issue of bouncing on fast lowering platforms by snapping the player to the ground when they've landed. This generally works, except for an oversight it s...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
I'm really not too keen of a fork just for the virtual mouse. A fork would be a great idea for more advanced things, but just the virtual mouse (retaining an option for the original input method) does not justify forking IMO. Maybe a fork would be better for things like 60fps, uncapped mouse speed, ...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
In regards to the virtual mouse, it would not be perfect because the speed caps would still apply, but it would increase accuracy to select which angle you want to face when within those speed caps, and you can stop exactly where you want to if your target aim exceeds the speed caps. Not to mention,...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
without me creating this topic, Blastfrog's topics would have been completely ignored, and we wouldn't have had any discussion at all. That is very true, I appreciate it, whether it was your intention or not to foster discussion. I should apologize for coming off as self-important earlier in this t...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
I don't want to see Aleph One change that much, I just want better mouse control and easier FOV control. I would prefer to see Aleph One get these features and not a fork. I don't want to see splintering of an already tiny userbase, the more unification, the better.

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
Did you know that you can just write an MML script that controls FOV? Yes, but that is not nearly as convenient as a menu option, and most people don't know that, nor would most people be willing to bother writing one. I am far more concerned with average users outside of this community getting a g...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
I was thinking the FOV setting would be a base modifier. Mappers defined FOV would still take effect, proportionally scaled by the user's modifier. I firmly believe that FOV is something the users should have control over, and this is a common view among the general gaming community. If the user wan...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
I found a coder who is likely willing to implement my suggestions. Treellama, are you willing to accept the "virtual mouse" and FOV config option features if they are done well? Note that the virtual mouse would in no way alter the existing gameplay mechanics, but instead act separately an...

Re: Better mouse control, please
Has anybody considered actively bringing in outside help to work on development? I'm sure there are a few guys in the doom sourceport community who would lend a hand if asked. I guess I could try to convince some people. Key word: try. EDIT: Attempt potentially successful. I've got someone looking ...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
As for the grasp on the userbase, I'm more concerned with expanding the userbase to include more people outside of the Marathon community. Mouse control that isn't objectively bad and an FOV slider are two things that would vastly improve this. And no, I'm not much of a coder type (I can code a litt...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
I thought what I suggested was mostly trivial, except for the mouse stuff. I'm not asking for stuff like slopes, or floating polygons (called 3D floors in Doom-based engines). I'm asking for a more solid end-user experience by tweaking existing features (again, not counting the mouse stuff). The FOV...

Re: Blastfrog's shitty suggestions thread
You've gotta be kidding me. My suggestions are not worth ignoring. I'm not sure that ignoring user requests is a good attitude to have.
There's a lot of ideas I have, but I only posted those that I feel would genuinely benefit the end-user.

Uh huh. And what's your problem with me? My suggestions are quite sensible, actually. I'm honestly quite irked by your insulting tone. Two software renderer requests
1. Please restore 8 and 16 bit depth options. I actually kinda like playing in lower bit depths.
2. Enable color blending for the floating HUD. Right now it's basically broken if using the software renderer.

Remove "limit vertical view", add config based FOV slider
I feel that it'd be better if the "limit vertical view" option was removed and that the engine behaves like that flag is on at all times. Having this flag off introduces inconsistencies and shows black corners when looking up or down in the shader GL renderer. Then, instead of requiring th...

Better mouse control, please
I feel this is something Aleph One desperately needs. Mouse control is the major thing that puts newcomers off. I know part of it has to do with film compatibility, but I honestly don't see the issue. Old demos could still play back fine, and new demos could be recorded with a new input system. I su...

Re: I wonder what the original Jjaro set looked like
Oh I see what happened now: you replied to a Shocktart post. You'll do better if you just ignore him from now on. I thought his post in this thread was unfounded, but I don't see "ignore him" as being very conducive to a positive environment in an already tiny community. I'd have to disag...
