Replacing ingame sounds with MML

I've been running into some problems with replacing ingame sound effects (sound object placed on a map) with external sounds using MML. In this case the wind sound effect (95) but the original sound simply gets played instead. I've tested this both with the latest stable version along with the lates...

Susannah

CanyouSeetheStars_0000.png Susannah is an experimental Aleph One scenario developed back in 2009 and presented at the art exhibition Þrír í Þriðja in Hjalteyri, Iceland the same year. In 2013 it was released on Simplici7y . Now it's time to give Susannah a bit of a facelift and this thread will ser...

Re: Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge

On other topic, does anyone know if the Unreal Tournament version on Steam works with Marathon: Resurrection at all? Kind of curious about that.
I do know that the UT '99 Game of the Year edition over at GOG works with Marathon Resurrection at least.

Re: Vasara, a texturing plugin for Aleph One

I am running into an issue with Vasara 1.0.3 on Ubuntu 18.04. Upon starting a map with Vasara enabled I get the error message "[string "HUD Lua"]:399: attempt to index field 'cursor_menu' (a nil value)" in the console, and no mouse cursor is visible which makes working with Vasar...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

I did ask you actually, and thanks for the input. :) I think there is something of an uncanny valley sort of thing happening wherever two textures with depth and contours meet at a sudden sharp angle and then have to interact like the flat surfaces they really are. I don't really know what to do ab...

Re: Wanted: People who know more about Marathon than is heal

Yeah, the problem with lighting in maps is that it's relatively freeform and many mapping methods use lighting in a more "practical way" rather than realistic.

Then there's of course the problem with custom lights. :/

Re: Wanted: People who know more about Marathon than is heal

Yes, the landscape textures are displayed as regular textures. and if i am not mistaken I also noticed some transparent textures simply displayed as blue (where it was supposed to be transparent) when I tested out the Marathon Eternal data files.

What's your plan regarding lighting?

Re: Wanted: People who know more about Marathon than is heal

Tested out some of my ancient maps from 20 years ago. Working quite nicely apart from it really doesn't like 5D space like expected.

Re: Wanted: People who know more about Marathon than is heal

Apparently the bug is in the menu/file chooser. For some reasons if I for example choose a physics file in the Physics box it will both populate the physics box and shapes box menu item with the physics model path. This was causing the above error as it was trying to read the physics model as a shap...

So I just noticed this thread now. Great to see this scenario still being alive after all this time. Correct me if i am wrong, but who was the original author (or team leader) of WMaiD? Wasn't it Blayne Scott? If so, does anyone know where he is now a days? I am trying to reconnect with some old pal...

Re: Marathon 1 MIDI files (complete download!)

Oh shit, I was just wondering about this the other day when I saw your music remaster project thread. I remember finding these MIDI files probably over 10 or 15 years ago but was worried they had been affected by linkrot. Thank you for saving those. You should maybe upload this to archive.org for th...

Re: Closing Marathon Orphanage

I just looked through some of the files and some of the projects have readme's with quite undetailed "license information". A lot of them have none, which is kind of sad as it seriously affects the survivability of this work. :( ...which makes me wonder (slightly off topic) if the 'thon co...

Re: Closing Marathon Orphanage

Does anyone know what license there is on all those files and/or what can be done with them. I do think I saw somewhere a simple "do whatever you want" kind of message, but I wanted to make sure I understood that correctly before I start using them. For example, in my case, I have started ...

Re: Compiling Weland 1.4.3 on Linux

All you need is the Mono Framework to use Weland, at least from my understanding. Mono framework and gtk-sharp2 on Linux to be more precise. You have to use binfmt to do that second thing. Ubuntu must come configured that way. Scary! Oh wow, feels like a bit of an overkill to play around with modpr...

Re: Compiling Weland 1.4.3 on Linux

oh... yes, that works! I just thought it was a windows executable but apparently it works fine under Linux. Double clicking it makes it run through Wine though which doesn't seem to work. 'mono Weland.exe" and "./Weland.exe" runs it flawlessly.

Thank you

Compiling Weland 1.4.3 on Linux

It's been a while since I last used Weland (and anything 'thon related as a matter of fact) and decided to check out Weland for a bit of a nostalgia. Got stuck on trying to figure out how to actually compile it. After I've installed gtk2-sharp and mono "make" spits out the following: mcs @...

Re: FFMPEG Problems with compiling Aleph One 1.1 on Ubuntu 1

If you're feeling generous, the README and INSTALL files that come with the releases haven't been touched in over 7 years, and are full of obsolete info and links. Re: FFMPEG Problems with compiling Aleph One 1.1 on Ubuntu 1

The configuration failed and I couldn't make afterwards. (no makefile generated if I remember correctly)

I just tried installing the dev packages and now everything runs smoothly and detects FFMPEG.
