I was thinking about this cause i had a bunch of team games today. and i thought maybe it would be fun to arrange a ladder with people cassually arranging matches between teams . I personally thinkl it would be a lot of fun. any interest out there?
Yeah sure, I'd play in any marathon tournament. As long as it is set up well, I'm in.

well the point would be to have a league or at least a team ladder. The Thug wrote:As long as it is set up well, I'm in.
so challenges and such can be done cassually and the ladder updated whenever people actually fight for the next top spot.
thus throwing the need for lots of orginazation and dumb luck that people might find out about a specifically timed tourney.
I vote ladder.
I assume this would be similar to the stats that get kept on Mythers who compete in tourneys. Is there any reason this can not / has not been set up for Marathoners on Mariusnet?

Thank the sun that went nova so that Earth could have iron and silicon.
I think that might be an example showing that some sort of statistics could be kept, if the end result of a game could be broadcast back to the metaserver somehow.
What did the clans do to kept track back in the day?

Back in the day I created a thread and anyone who posted in it was automatically a member of my Marathon "clan". These days I use the Marius.net order page to keep things organized.effigy wrote:I think that might be an example showing that some sort of statistics could be kept, if the end result of a game could be broadcast back to the metaserver somehow.

I would be quite interested in a sort of 2v2 thing, as long as it was well organized and not some sort of half-assed attempt at a tournament like The Flood.
I don't care anymore.

well, the point would be to not have it as a tournament but rather as a league or ladder, where teams arrange games amongst each-other when it is convienient for all the players in each team. not a one time tourney(none of you voted for one time tourney)

It also has the "++" moniker attached, so this tournament should include TC++.

maybe thats what you should figure out while I wait for some more participants.
As for scoring i was thinkingof doing it similar to that ladder pic i found up there:
4pts win 2pts tie 0 points loss.

Hmm...so, ultimately, whichever teams play the most will be at the top of the ladder? That works, but I wonder if there should be a "League Night."
Alternately, any thoughts a 3 on 3 CTF League?

I thought ladder tourneys were pretty much the opposite of that: the tourney does not advance until each round has completed, and no one plays less or more than anyone else (aside from the occasional "bye"). As long as we're talking about a proper ladder tournament, I would love to do it if I could find a partner.effigy wrote:Hmm...so, ultimately, whichever teams play the most will be at the top of the ladder?
One thing that will probably be needed for this to be a success is deadlines, so we know when we have to register by, and so we don't get held up indefinitely for each round to finish because one team is flaking out (they would be disqualified if they went past the round's deadline).

thug/jim team-alpha-doombusters
no deadline. i want this to be a continuous thing. something where teams register and then and arrange the fights independantly.
think of clan skrimms but with like teams of two. I'm entirely into it.
irretscen, you wanna form team-doombusters-alpha?
<edit> please come up with a name for your team, even if its jim/thug or thugjim or wtvr.</edit>

Excellent. Though, as such, I think dates and times would still need to be set in advance (League Night, or dare I say, "Carnage Fest") due to time zones and other such obligations.Iritscen wrote:...

Hence why i say that you must contact the other team(s) and arrange matches with them. that will allow this "timezone" problem to be overcome.effigy wrote:in advance due to time zones and other such obligations.
alternating hosts in a best of five manner is probably the most fair way to score matches.
Is that me? What have you done to my username? :pack45 wrote:irretscen
I don't even know what that means :pack45 wrote:you wanna form team-doombusters-alpha?
I haven't been playing much recently, but next time I am on the meta I will look for one of the people I have in mind and see if they want to team up. So I probably won't know if I'm doing this for a few days, at least. Good thing there's...
All right, let's hope all the teams are on the ball. Also, there's no point in doing this without a minimum number of teams, so how many rounds do we want? Once we know that, we need (2^rounds) teams to commit to this, right?ack45 wrote:no deadline. i want this to be a continuous thing. something where teams register and then and arrange the fights independantly.
That would mean that the winning team would host one more time than the losing team. Also, what if a team doesn't have someone who can host?ack45 wrote:alternating hosts in a best of five manner is probably the most fair way to score matches.
I think once we get all the teams/names set up, we need to set up a system for how games will be played.
I think the games should have a team elimination style set up, with the first team getting to a set score winning the game. There could be a fifth player that serves as a moderator to make sure that teams aren't lying about their win.
There are many options to consider, but these are just a few of my thoughts.
