so, on the count of the new art catagory up and running, I feel like I need to throw pictures in also... I rekn'

The first image I will post is that of a concept/visualization sketch of one of the earlier levels in Marathon Squadron when you have to infiltrate a plateau carved out by enemy forces for artilery positions. (no, team work wont be that coordinated in game play)
IPB Image

My second image is that of the new Mjolnir V design in Marathon Squadron. No, ironicaly, you wont be playing as this new biomechanical breed. You will be eventualy battling next to them hulkymen. (you play as a standard platoon sargent in a ranger division)

teh shongshong rulers! 8.png

hey, got any new ingame screens up your sleeve, by the way?
tybo
awesome! did you go to art school, or art classes? how old are you? very nice!

EDIT: ooo I see now, you're exactly 6 days older than me! 11.png damn, you should have been 7 days older :(
shongshong
8.png thanks!
as for screenshots, I havent made any recently. But for right now, I can say that I am using HD background maps and HD liquid textures... (only development on the Pfhor prime textures aspect). Ill post some new images later,

as for the closest thing to a screenshot (character made like... 2 months ago), here is a new freindly!
IPB Image
its a slave from the mines of rubicon... to fight for JUSTICE!
MoppyPuppy
That Rubicon monster... I hope thats not the final version, if it is the final version, I wont hold back, that sucks.

Drawings up top are good though.
shongshong
to tell you the truth, I havent even factored these guys into the plot quite yet. And if they are gona be part of the game, they aint gona be playing a major roll... (like in rubicon)

my origional intentions were to make the slaves do some seriouse uprising etc against someone... but as my game plot goes, IFC doesnt reaaallyy push around the Pfhor much, or at all...
so I can just say for shure right now, that these guys aint gona be a major roll

btw... what makes you feel bad about them? You just said it sucked... 9.png
Dieselfame3
cool stuff man

It's MoppyPuppy. You can't hope to outdo his amazing artistic talent. *rolls eyes*
Samus
Their faces look like an end of a cucumber, they are cool as! You should make A phsyco version of one that looks freindly then draws 2 swords and kills every phfor in the room in one hit, that would be awsome! (you would looks through a window into a blood filled room, you have no contact with him otherwise he would slice you too)
shongshong
lol... no

but like i said, I havent even decided how I will factor these guys into the plot... The Marathon Squadron game is comprised mostly of a human vs. human conflict... Ontop of the Pfhor Prime
shongshong
Im gona post some screenshots! finaly!
On these screenshots you can see the new HD sewage look to the Pfhor enviorment.

This level im showing displays the first time you have an epic battle (1940 and 2880 style!) scene with a crazy ass amount of bullets flying around out at all times... pluss new sewage!
sory about the antistropic issues, I was screenshoting with my old G4, that cant handle frame rates too well
RyokoTK
Looks great! One thing, though: Rubicon already uses the MA-75C, so you might want to choose a different designation. Pretty cool, though. Also, I dunno how far you're going to go with that, but please refrain from using lots of brown hallways like you have in the 4th pic.
shongshong
The weapon names are still being hammered out. (as in I havent even toutched that regeion of weapons development yet... lol) For instance, if you look at the tittle names on the left (in the weapons display regeion) the names dont even match that of the rifle on the right,

The Brown interiors are due to the bunker architecture and material choice of the IFC on the Pfhor prime.
Im trying to keep the color schemes similar to avoid rainbowy styles, and to aim for a more realism/ photographical apearence. (with grunge)
RyokoTK
That's all fine and dandy, but what I'm trying to say is that it tends to... suck. Color schemes are fine, but variation in architecture is really appreciated. The first couple pictures are great, for example, but they're mostly brown.
Homocidal Ham
Not to be an ass or anything, but why does marathon: squadron seem to have army rangers fighting nazis in the 1940's? The army dosn't use the same outfits it used to...

Hey, just because I cant do better doesn't make the nasty 3-D thing suck!!!!
And I dont care what anyone says, that gun is too square. Make a new one.
shongshong
I dont know if I said this a while ago, but the uniforms are gonna to be influenced of that in 1940's.

The UESC here are wearing color scheems and packs that have the apearence of US forces in 1940 due to the Batalion type you are fighting in (the 15th UESC Ranger Batalion) on the Pfhor Prime. So the UESC uniforms are gona be that dusty color... The normal uniforms I had planed out for the UESC were going to be grey and not tights, and more space like, but for ground combat, I went with this uniform style.

as for the IFC/ (nazis) they just wear black like that. Cant go wrong with that look!(they are mercinaries!).
Dieselfame3
that is amazing, *wishes he could make cool 3d guns*
MoppyPuppy
Dont you think everything is influenced by the 1940's in those pictures?

Except the guns... nothing wrong with that of course.
I like the fact that your making friends a key part of this game. No more lone rangering...

Good work!

Now that I've made this post look all positive, now for my constructive criticism...

That rectangular gun... make it non rectangular... give it more shape.
RyokoTK
I'm going to wager that the WW2 look is intentional, but yeah, those soldiers don't look futuristic at all. It didn't really bother me, though, because I picked up on the WW2 vibes right away, and decided to go with it, rather than cast it aside.

And while rectangular guns may seem bad, it's actually not that unrealistic.
Dieselfame3
rectangular guns are pretty cool
theres one that a favorite of mine made by Heckler & Koch called the G-11
it uses caseless ammo which increases the ammount it can carry and reduces weight of the clips

what app do u use for ur 3d stuff?
shongshong
I used blender (v2.42) to do all my modeling and texturing. With the use of Photoshop to do some grunging texturing.

as for the square assault rifle, its a new UESC trend, angular preformance! (pluss they stack well in storage) Expect the same from the UESC standard pistol, similar trends in design...

IFC weapons might have similar human angularity looks, but have more defined shapes built into them... for instance, the IFC light machinegun is built with a different design and metal mold than previouse clading design

(most recent in weapon development)
Grayswandir
Jesus christ that's a nice weapon...
MoppyPuppy

Samus
That gun is HUGE, MEGA COLOSAL, LOOK HOW SMALL THE HAND IS COMPARED TO THE GUN, THAT THING COULD TAKE DOWN TANKS!
Dieselfame3

shongshong
free and open source!
dont bother asking me when you can ask google! :P
Samus
pretty good, i had them but I didn't no how to place dots so i deleted it :P
Grayswandir
Wait...wait...Blender is FREE?!!!
MWAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!!
KICK ASS!!!
shongshong
its the greatest and most powerfull open source 3d modeling package that meets the standards of that in maya 3dmax and other bigshots
Mordekai
Nice weapon, I would like to see more angles of better quality of it. Now, for nit picking. The thing sticking out the back of the weapon could be better, it's like, "Ooh, nice smooth weapon...bam...ugly rectangular thing...eww." Also, some of the chrome detail looks kind of random and unnatrual. You also might wanna throw on some bump, or if there already is some, make it greater. I see some nice scratch detail, making it a little more realistic. More detailed texturing would be nice too, instead of a plain metal surface across most of the gun. Overall, very nice.
Lugas
Dude, they are soooo cool!

I'll have to agree with Mordekai on this part, I'm assuming that "ugly retangular thing" is the butt/shoulder rest of the gun right? Well, assuming it is a two-handed weapon, you may want to curve down it a bit (or add a concave area for the arm...), because it would be hard to get your arm around that...Otherwise, kick ass!!!
shongshong
Here is an ingame veiw of this weapon. (frignn spoiler man!)
so to avoid spoiling-ing, I screenshoted this weapon from the map Y.A.F.A.M. (however you spell it)

now, for you people who want it much ass bigger, the muzzle flash is rediculouse with this baby and already makes this weapon way to big.. lol (btw, its realy fun to shoot with [lawnmower style])

(console is still under development)

IPB Image

and this image is a profile full render. There is bumpmaping on the metal material, mainly on the grunge spots (alot!) but I turned down the scratch bump detail to avoid that cleché weapon look that we all love ever so much... I mean, where in the world are you gona pick up a gun with more lumpyness/scratches than this

IPB Image
Mordekai
Yep, that's good, I couldn't see most of those bumps from the other angle, or they looked different.
shongshong
oh yah, isnt rubicons assault rifle, "MA-75B"?

I dont realy remember any scenario using "C" thats why I put that down first
assassingao
Woah...that gun looks awesome...

Marathon's weapon artist would've been proud of you.
Grayswandir
I am definitely switch to Blender now...mwahahaha!!!
Damn...that is some nice work.

It's definitely not MA-75B. They change model numbers when they change weapon models.
DRAKE.
That gun is beautiful. How long did it take you? What would it take for you to make me a gun as nice as that? (seriously)
shongshong
hea` thanks! 4.png
It took me a weekend of hard work. And I have so many weekends in the year (Im only alowed to realy do this [not school work stuff] on the weekends, so preciouse weekends are)... as yall know! time is money!

from the longest time, I alwayse saw rubicons rifle as the same old MA-75B
Homocidal Ham
is that drum fed gun going to be like a trench sweeper/SAW or somthing?
shongshong
yah, its like a 30cal 1500rpm trench-sweeping LMG... but thanks to future technology... your able to cary it and fire it without setting up the bipod (since I cant set up a bipod system in the marathon engine)
Dieselfame3
kind of like the old mafia tommy guns but more pwnzr?
shongshong
it blasts bullets out so fast (not exactly easy to wield so its like shooting an antiaircraft gun), it makes your head twirl... and soup outa your enemies!
Samus
Aircrafts A... hmmm, what if this gun was produce in real life... yes... yeees...
Mr. Violence
I actually liked your redesign of the Rubicon slave. I mean, it still needs more detail, but it's interesting.

I'm a little uncertain as to how this fits into the canon, though. My impression from what I've read is that this is taking place after the events of Rubicon[?], but the technology seems much too archaic. The type of defenses I see in those screenshots don't make a lot of sense to me in an age of teleporters. I appreciate the attempt to reinterpret the universe in terms of more conventional warfare, but there are certain concessions that have to be made, I think. 20th Century setups are far beyond outmoded for this. I would personally like to see more of a fusion between the high-tech color of the Marathon series and this more old-fashioned look you have given it.

Also, there are way too many WW2 games out there.
Grayswandir
From the looks of it, it just has the WW2 era influences, its not going to be a WW2 recreation...I'll have to let shong answer that though.
Personally, I like the style and where it's going so far, keep up the good work!
